Apprentices

The Dytecna Advanced Apprenticeship programme is run in partnership with Herefordshire Group Training Association (HGTA).  The company takes a minimum of two apprentices every year at our Worcestershire site on either a craft or technician apprenticeship.

All of our apprentices are employed on a full time basis from the beginning of their apprenticeship and spend their first year at the HGTA Training Centre on Holmer Road, Hereford.

The apprenticeship will take four years to complete and will lead to NVQ level 3 or 4 together with other technical certificates which will give you further knowledge and understanding of your job.

The completion of the apprenticeship may not be the end of your further education and there are opportunities, with the support of Dytecna to study up to degree and Chartered status.

How do I apply?

Applications for a Dytecna apprenticeship are managed by HGTA.  To complete an application form for HGTA, follow this link

Testimonials

Jack Young
Advanced Modern Apprentice (AMA) Technician – Year 1

What am I currently doing?

I am currently undertaking an advanced modern apprenticeship at Dytecna Ltd and after only a few weeks working here I have learnt a vast amount of new skills. I have been involved in projects, and I am part of a great team, working together to complete a “project”.  I have learnt how to use a CAD drawing package, where they have allowed me to design and get made a component for the vehicle we are working on. It was a proud moment for me to see my first piece of work in the flesh.

I have completed my first year at Herefordshire Group Training Association (HGTA) and Hereford College of Technology doing a National Certificate in Electrical/Electronics. Recently I was privileged by receiving a “Best Progress” award for my efforts, I attended an awards evening and was presented with a trophy, certificate and £20 voucher for WHSmith.

My background and experience

I successfully finishing my A-Levels, and achieved three in the following subjects:

*  Physical Education (all theory, no running),
*  Art and Design
*  Design and Technology

Before A-Levels I obviously did GCSE’s, getting 11 in total, 8, grades B-C. My most loved subject was Design and Technology, Systems and Control, with Art coming in a close second.

I decided not to get into debt by going to university, and instead try and make my career somewhere else. I went to Dytecna Ltd, and they asked me to apply to HGTA.  I trained for a year in HGTA where I gathered the basics in electrical engineering.  I also did software packaging and computer based training.

I am part of the Boys’ Brigade, and through this organisation I have gained leadership skills, the Gold Duke of Edinburgh award, as well as the Queens Badge, which is the high award in the Brigade. I am currently a Non-Commissioned Officer.

What excites you about your apprenticeship?

The main thing that gets me excited is the fact that what we design and make is used by the Armed services.  There is also a large amount of training available for me, which is reassuring and allows for me to increase my knowledge and understanding.

The team I am working with are extremely helpful whenever I get stuck.  My team also has a 5-a-side football team, and we play against other teams in the company. It is a good way of team building and is a laugh. There are lots of people around the same age, which helps me to understand what the company does, because they’re on the same wave length as me. I have recently joined the Malvern Splash Gym because of Dytecna Ltd, allowing me to have a cheap membership.

The future excites me, as I climb the business ladder, who knows what will happen, what paths I should take, the people I will meet, it’s going to be a great experience.
