Contractor Logistic Support ManagementContractor logistics support is an essential capability that must be considered for all future MoD procurement activity. The Strategic Defence Review White Paper, issued by the Ministry of Defence in 1998 stated: "Where appropriate we will consider the use of contractors to assist with logistic support". The main shift recently has been how much closer we take this type of support to the 'front line' and the difficulties this can bring. These changes have, in addition, generated a requirement for an increased sophistication of the contractual arrangements and their management. The bottom line is actually very simple: CLS can provide opportunities for both the customer and provider. It can reduce the financial and technological risk of the former and provide a broader financial footprint for the latter. It does not transfer responsibility for operational risk.
