Reliability and MaintainabilityReliability and Maintainability (R&M) are vital performance characteristics that impact upon the operational availability, effectiveness and the whole life costs of defence projects. It is therefore fundamental that from the start of the project, the R&M requirements are continuously analysed and progressively defined and agreed between all of the project stakeholders i.e. MoD agencies and the contractor. The R&M achievements of a system depend on all aspects of that system, including hardware, software, people and the man/machine interfaces. R&M engineering is a systems engineering discipline and so such programmes must adequately address all these aspects. Dytecna are widely experienced in the delivery of R&M programmes on a variety of Electronic, Electrical and Electro/Mechanical contracts in accordance with the guidelines of DEFSTAN 00-40. PlanningWe appoint a Manager who will have responsibility for managing all aspects of the R&M programme. We create R&M plans and carry out R&M engineering activities in accordance with the requirements of the contract and as part of these activities conduct failure rate data collection, collation and analysis of the data using a variety of propriety analysis and modelling tools. We then carry out Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs) as required. All R&M outputs will be fed back to the engineering project team to ensure that the outcomes influence design and therefore the customer receives the most reliable equipment possible. Mitigation StrategyDytecna have been involved in many MoD procurement projects and their highly knowledgeable and experienced R&M staff have consistently demonstrated equipment, system and sub-system reliability to the satisfaction of the authority. |
